You never know who you are going to share the road with.

Trucks, cars, campers, motorcycles and now houses. Holding up in Sioux Falls tonight, tomorrow we cross into Minnesota with a 126 mile ride. Just entering the corn belt, Corn, corn everywhere.

Over 2000 miles covered so far and 90,000 feet climbed! We will be coming into Portland just 3 weeks from tomorrow! I can’t believe it!!

Todays ride from Oacoma to Mitchell SD was a grueling 75 miles.

Starting with a white knuckle bridge crossing over the Missouri River with cross winds and gusts topping 30mph, and the wind went on all day. Head winds slowed us down to 10 mph going down hill! To make matters worse, much of todays riding was on old concrete pavement with a seam every 12 feet. If that doesnt shake your fillings loose, nothing will! Enough complaining, everyone made it in safe and sound and we are looking forward to tomorrows ride. More to report tomorrow.

Day 22, Kadoka to Oacoma SD.

115 miles with temps up to 103 degrees! But the biggest obstacle was the wind, 20-30 mph from the side or head on, but never a tail wind! Everyone put in a hard day but had a good time. Not too much of a day for pics, just lots of open space. We officially crossed into central time zone today so just 1 hour difference. Tomorrow we cross the Missouri river, about half way home!

Sorry for the silence of the past couple of days.

I took a spill on the bike coming out of a Gillette, Wyoming and messed up my shoulder. After being checked out, and a visit to the chiropractor to get things are back in alignment, all is good. Today is our second rest day. We are in Rapid City South Dakota. Relaxation, taking in the sights and recovery is all that is on the agenda for today.

Thanks for all of your encouragement, it’s great to know that you are following along.

Today started out with a big climb over Big Horn Pass.

A 6000 foot climb in the first 30 miles of the day. Spectacular views all of the way up to the summit at 9430 feet. Just as we went over the top an intense mountain thunder storm hit with wind, rain, hail and temps dropping to 37 degrees. Some of the faster riders got ahead of the storm and made the rest of the ride. The rest of us gave it our best, but ultimately sought the warmth and safety of the vans. I can’t say enough about the great group management during this freak storm offered by our Trek Travel guides. Everyone is safe and will be ready to ride again tomorrow!

Long roads that go as far as the eye can see.

Dark clouds, riding in the rain. Vast open spaces with out another living thing in sight. Crossed into Wyoming today, our 5th state so far. But you just have to smile when you pass some creative lawn sculpture.

Catching up.

Yesterday we crossed into Montana after a long climbing day. The lodge had limited Wi-Fi, thus the reason for the late post. Lots of breath taking views. Off to Missoula for our first rest day!
